In a letter dated October 10, 1992, Joann Yukimura wrote a letter of appreciation that said in part:

We hope the enclosed photos will help you remember Kaua‘i and our neighborhood on Kupolo.

We will never forget you! Many, many thanks for helping to clean up our streets and neighborhoods, for guarding our properties and for all the kōkua you gave us. We thank you and honor you.

Specially, my daughter Maile and I thank you for helping us remove that big root in our yard, trim our plumeria tress and pick up debris.

You were great! Mahalo nui loa

JoAnn Yukimura served the Kaua‘i County mayor at the time Hurricane Iniki hit. But her letter of appreciation was a personal one, written as a private citizen.
