Recalls in the auto industry are at an all-time high, affecting virtually every manufacturer in the business.

But some automakers have fewer recalls, are more timely in issuing their recalls and experience fewer recalls for severe problems, according to a recent survey by

Moreover, automakers’ overall response to recalls can be indicative of the priority a brand puts on quality, said, a web-based service for researching new and used vehicles.

The company says it reviewed 31 years of recall history and found that Porsche had the lowest recall rate, Volvo had the lowest percentage of recalled cars with potentially dire problems and Tesla was the most proactive in recalls.
