Famous Veterans: Jamie Farr

March 25, 2018

We remember Jamie Farr as the cross-dressing corporal Max Klinger, in the long running hit television series M.A.S.H.  During the series run, he attempted to get a Section 8 discharge to get out of the Army and return to his hometown of Toledo, Ohio. In the last season, the script writers threw an ironic twist into the plot, a Korean love interest for Max. In the series ending episode, he decides to remain in Korea.

In real life, Jamie Farr served in the Army and was stationed in Korea and Japan in the 1950s. Little more is known about his military service as he never boasts about it. We did read in a web article that during the series filming, he wore his real military dog tags.

Thank you for your service
