Retiree News has posted several articles about the history of the I.G. Brown Air National Guard Professional Military Education Center. From it’s start in the 1960s, there has been continuous improvement to McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base. Long gone are the two story World War II barracks and other wooden facilities.

Many Hawaii Air National Guard members attended Airman Leadership School, the NCO Academy and the Academy of Military Science at the PMEC over the years. The Air National Guard has added many other short courses at the facility.

Recently, the new athletic field was dedicated, a facility that will be used by the PMEC and the host unit, the 134th Air Refueling Wing, Tennessee Air National Guard. On their website, the PMEC posted a photograph of the base today.

As a reference point, the tree in the upper right hand corner is the front gate area. The white building with orange trim is the club facility.

The Air National Guard spent a lot of time and money on the PMEC since its beginning in the 1960s.
