Famous Veterans: Sherman Hemsley
Sherman Hemsley had a tough upbringing and a disjointed family life, leading him to drop out of high school to join the Air Force, serving a total of 4 years in the military. After his service, he returned to become a mailman, and it was only later in life that he found his home in acting.
This man later became a 1970s and 80s icon leading comedic and heartwarming roles, most notably as George Jefferson. The charismatic roles he portrays makes it even more impressive that he came from such a rough early life.
