Legalized medical pot may be a boon to older Americans, boosting their health and ability to work, a new study finds.
“Research [on medical marijuana] has largely ignored older adults even though they experience the highest rates of medical issues that could be treated with medical marijuana,” said co-author Lauren Hersch Nicholas. She’s an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore.
Her team analyzed responses of more than 100,000 adults, 51 and older, who took part in the 1992-2012 Health and Retirement Study. The survey looked at health and job market situations among older Americans.

Master Sergeant Todd Shak was awarded Rookie Recruiting & Retention Manager of the Year Region 1 for Fiscal Year 18. Region 1 encompasses Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, and all the states/U.S.territories to the west into the Pacific AOR.
Technical Sergeant Sharon Pasion was presented the Silver Award which is given to recruiters who enlisted at least 45 recruits for Fiscal Year 18.
Congratulations to MSgt Shak and TSgt Pasion for your outstanding achievements, dedication to the recruiting program, and for representing the State of Hawaii and the Hawaii Air National Guard. We are all proud of you both!
Photographs: Special thanks to those who took the time to submit photographs to Retiree News. Many were family photographs and we thank these supporters for sharing memories. Others were photographs of retiree get-togethers and we always want to see those we served with during our active Guard years.
We sometimes have challenges identifying those in the older photographs. But we send them out to supporters who have long Guard service for their assistance. Thanks to those supporters.
If you have any old or new photographs of Guardmembers, could you scan them to JPEGs and email them to: retireenews@gmail.com. Everyone enjoys these photographs.

When Beverly Dunn called her new primary care doctor’s office last November to schedule an annual checkup, she assumed her Medicare coverage would pick up most of the tab.
The appointment seemed like a routine physical, and she was pleased that the doctor spent a lot of time with her.
Until she got the bill: $400.
Dunn, 69, called the doctor’s office assuming there was a billing error. But it was no mistake, she was told. Medicare does not cover an annual physical exam.
