Congresswoman Duckworth (D-Illinois) and Congressman Paul Cook (R-California), introduced H.R.2221, the Veterans Small Business Enhancement Act of 2015. The bill would allow Veteran-owned small businesses to apply for and receive government surplus or excess property. The General Service Administration’s excess federal property program is currently available to minority-owned businesses and Veterans Service Organizations and H.R.2221 would expand eligibility to Veteran-owned small businesses. The legislation will save taxpayer money; it is estimated that GSA’s excess federal property program saved the U.S. government $200 million in 2013. There are over 2.5 million Veteran-owned small businesses in the United States.
“Our Veterans deserve every opportunity to achieve the American Dream that they fought for,” said Duckworth. “This legislation will help Veteran-owned small businesses grow and allow some of our country’s most talented workers to succeed and create jobs. I look forward to working with members of Congress from both sides of the aisle to pass this important legislation for our Veterans.”
“This bill will not only give Veteran entrepreneurs an extra opportunity to succeed and grow their businesses, but will save taxpayers money,” said Cook. “When the federal government disposes of unclaimed excess property, this bill will allow it to go to Veteran businesses where it can be put back to use. This commonsense bipartisan bill grows our economy, helps create jobs, and gives a hand up to our nation’s heroes.”

On Sept. 27, 2014, a team of U.S. Special Operations troops was dropped into a volatile village in Afghanistan’s Helmand province. The U.S. military had withdrawn thousands of troops from the country in the previous year, and the mission called for 14 Americans and about 24 Afghan commando counterparts to clear a bazaar of weapons and insurgents, and then get out.
It turned into a fight for their lives, three U.S. Special Operations airmen involved in the battle recalled Tuesday. The insurgents, numbering close to 100, sprung a fierce attack in which they not only launched a barrage of fire on the Americans…..
The new stock joke could be “I’m not a doctor, but I play one on the Internet.” We search online for information or advice about illnesses and medicines. We connect with our physician, pharmacist, and health insurance company online. Most healthcare providers and insurance companies keep our medical, pharmaceutical, and payment records online. In a phrase, our health is online. Generally, that is a good thing, so long as everyone involved is prudent.
James Ashdown flew F-100 Super Saber fighters with the Air Force during the Korean War. After he was discharged after the war, he applied to fly with the 199th Fighter Squadron. For whatever reason, he did not become a member of the Air Guard. Maybe that was a good thing…..
