The April 2 confirmation vote is open to the public.
Lt. Col. Gerald H. Green III’s dishonesty didn’t stop with his uniform.
The former head of the Army National Guard Warrior Training Center at Fort Benning, Georgia, was relieved of command in October while under investigation for wearing an unearned Ranger tab. Green admitted as much in a Sept. 30 statement to investigators which was provided along with other documents to Army Times via a request under the Freedom of Information Act.
When returning home following an evacuation order, it’s important to know what to expect as unseen dangers may exist. Ready.gov provides the following tips when first arriving to your home:
+Walk carefully around the outside and check for loose power lines, gas leaks and structural damage;
+Keep a battery-powered radio with you so you can listen for emergency updates and news reports;
+Use a battery-powered flashlight (turned on outside and before entering) to inspect the damage;
+Be mindful of animals and use a stick to poke through debris; and
+Be cautious of fallen objects, downed electrical wires, and weakened walls.
FEMA also offers a free, online training module “Coming Home After a Disaster” to help you navigate the recovery process, including:
+Understanding what kind of repairs homeowners may handle themselves;
+Creating a recovery action plan;
+Learning how to assess and document damage; and
+Developing a homeowner’s action checklist.
This training module is part of FEMA’s “Preparedness Activities for Communities Everywhere” tools, which educate individuals about easy ways to prepare for various hazards.
When’s the last time you went for a walk?
WASHINGTON – The Senate on Friday confirmed Army Maj. Gen. Timothy J. Kadavy as the new director for the Army National Guard.
Kadavy, former adjutant general of the Nebraska National Guard, is currently the special assistant to the vice chief, National Guard Bureau.
WASHINGTON, March 19, 2015 – The nation’s investment in the National Guard transformed it into a premier operational force, but sequestration spending cuts scheduled to begin Oct. 1 will create challenges, the chief of the National Guard Bureau said during a congressional hearing this week.
Army Gen. Frank J. Grass, joined by other senior reserve force leaders, testified before the House Appropriations Committee’s defense subcommittee March 17 about the fiscal posture and readiness of the National Guard Bureau and its subordinate components.
“For the past 13 years of sustained conflict,” Grass said, “with the help of the Congress, the Guard has transformed into a premier operational force serving with distinction as the primary combat reserve of the Army and Air Force. The nation’s investment in the Guard has resulted in the best trained, led and equipped Guard in history. It is the finest I have seen throughout my career.”
When Booker O’Neal reviewed his investment statement last fall, he noticed something odd: All the stock market indexes were up for the year, but his nest egg was down 3 percent.
Even worse: O’Neal, a retired marketing executive in Kansas City, Mo., was losing another 1 percent to the annual fee his financial advisor of four years was charging him to manage his account. And that was on top of the fees for the funds in his portfolio. “I asked myself: What am I getting for that?” said O’Neal.
It’s a question a lot of investors are beginning to ask—both about the fees they’re paying for advice on their retirement accounts and the hidden costs of the investments within them.
Scary cybersecurity news dominated the headlines constantly this year, with breaches, bugs and attacks involving Home Depot, Heartbleed, iCloud, Sony and others.
Unfortunately, security experts say the attacks will only continue in 2015. But they’re hoping there’s a silver lining to this brutal year: the start of a long-overdue conversation about the potential attacks that threaten everyone online.
