From the September 1965 issue of Hawaii Guardsman

In the September 1965 issue of the Hawaii Guardsman, the-Capt John “Saigon” Lee was named the Hawaii Air National Guard’s Outstanding Interceptor Pilot. Saigon went on to serve in staff and leadership positions. He served as the then-154th Composite Group commander from August 1, 1978 to December 2, 1989.

This Hawaii Air National Guard article came from a report filed by the 154th Wing historian, TSgt Theodore Merrill. This 2002 history report is on file with the Air Force Historical Research Center, Maxwell AFB, Alabama. It is truly unfortunate that a few years later, the Air Force chose to eliminate historian billets at the wing level.
