Check Six – 1980s: Annual Posting of the Guard at ‘Iolani Palace

This would have been a November 16 (King Kalakaua’s Birthday) posting of the Guard at ‘Iolani Palace. The photograph shows Luna Koa (1st Lt) Harry Awana reporting to Princess Abigail Kawānanakoa. The princess did many inspections of the Royal Guard over the years.
To Harry’s right is Luna Nela (2nd Lt) Charles Yabui. The individual carrying the America flag is not identifiable. The two Royal Guard members in the back row are Norman Kawamoto and James Pahukula.
Harry became the Kapen Moku (Captain) shortly after this ceremony.
