It takes world-class training to recover astronauts who are stranded in the middle of the ocean; and is why the 204th Airlift Squadron Pueos spent the past week teaming up with our rescue counterparts from the 129th Rescue Wing to execute a ‘Full Mission Profile’ out of Moffett Federal Airfield, Calif.
The training entailed a series of airdrops, flown by 204th Airlift Squadron C-17 operators, and an academic conference that helped further their Tactics, Techniques and Procedures that could be applied toward a contingency rescue operation for NASA’s Commercial Crew Program.
Key personnel from NASA’s Human Space flight contingency programs in Johnson Space Center, Texas, attended to help administer the academics, develop best practices, facilitate the FMP and report the progress achieved for operations to come.
