Has it really been 50 years? But unfortunately, no American carrier currently uses Boeing 747s; the last flight was earlier this year. View the CNN article.
Learn more about the 747’s future from the Boeing website, which includes the Air Force One new presidential aircraft.
This photograph was taken on January 9, 2000 at the retirement ceremony for Maj Gen Edward Richardson. The ceremony was on the 154th Wing flightline and included a parade of Hawaii Army and Air National Guard personnel. Many Guard retirees attend the ceremony.
In the photograph are three colonels: Dr. Norberto Baysa, former commander of the medical unit; Col Ernest Shima, former commander of the 201st Combat Communications Group, and Dr. Walter Chang, former commander of the medical unit.
All three were Traditional Guardmembers who served for many years before they retired.
Some military family members and retirees can renew their military ID cards online, thereby keeping ID card office visits under 10 minutes, thanks to a pilot program running on a handful of Air Force bases worldwide.
The program, started early this year, lets users do the bulk of the ID card renewal process, including submitting paperwork, via a secure online portal. Once finished, users can walk into the office and pick up their new card within a few days.

A simple blood test at a routine medical visit can tell whether you — like 32 percent of Americans — have high cholesterol.
You may be diagnosed with borderline-high or high cholesterol if your blood test results show:
+ Total cholesterol higher than 200 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL)
+ LDL (“bad”) cholesterol higher than 100 mg/dL
+ Triglycerides levels over 150 mg/dL
+ HDL (“good”) cholesterol less than 60 mg/dL

The Air Force’s five-year $13 billion estimate for the creation of an independent Space Force is high, and likely doesn’t cover cost savings that could come about through offsets, said Rep. Mike Rogers, the lawmaker who has been the biggest voice behind the move to create the new service. Despite the challenges in creating a new service—the first since the USAF was established in 1947—the 2020 timeframe is realistic as long as the scope stays relatively small, Rogers said.
Against the backdrop of an unrelenting opioid crisis, two new government reports warn that America’s seniors are succumbing to the pitfalls of prescription painkillers.
Issued by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the reports reveal that millions of older Americans are now filling prescriptions for many different opioid medications at the same time, while hundreds of thousands are winding up in the hospital with opioid-related complications.

With beer and wine for sale at 12 commissaries nationwide, sales seem to be chugging right along — pun intended.
Beer and wine hit some commissary shelves for the first time ever in July as Pentagon officials explore ways to lure more customers into stores. Operated through a partnership with the military exchange system much like the one under which commissaries carry tobacco, proceeds from sales go back to the exchange, not to the commissary.

In 1943, the Army established a regimental combat team training center at the foot of the Pali, emphasizing the use of and familiarity with modern arms and field weapons. In addition, the camp provided rugged terrain for jungle and Ranger training.
The training area comprised of four non-contiguous parcels: Maunawili Valley Impact Area, covering approximately 3,450-acres; the Maunawili site (near St Stephens Seminary,) 400-acres; a 46-acre site on the northern ridge of Mount Olomana; and the 500-acre site called Ulumawao.
The Pali Training Camp was situated in what is now the municipal Pali Golf Course, privately owned Ko’olau Golf Course and Hawaii Pacific University.
