The Trump administration is seeking to delay and perhaps dismantle the fiduciary rule. Originally scheduled to take effect in April, this rule would have legally required financial advisors handling 401(k) plans and individual retirement accounts to make recommendations in the best interest of their clients, and not the most profitable investments for the advisor.
Whether the rule will be implemented is now unclear. Nonetheless, some financial advisors are already upholding the fiduciary standard.

If you had to give the nation’s nursing homes a letter grade for quality, what would it be?
Experts tend to sigh at this question and point out, correctly, that the country’s 15,600 facilities are vastly different — rural and urban, for-profit and nonprofit and government-run, home to the reasonably healthy and the extremely sick, high-quality operations and appalling ones. Assigning grades can be folly.

March 25 is National Medal of Honor Day, a day that is dedicated to all Medal of Honor recipients.
The President, in the name of Congress, has awarded more than 3,400 Medals of Honor to our nation’s bravest Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen since the award was created in 1861.
Nineteen of these heroes received a second award, fourteen received two separate Medals for two separate actions and five received both the Navy and the Army Medals of Honor for the same action.

It’s called a trust for a reason: You’re counting on this stand-alone legal entity to do something you can’t. You may want the trust to ensure that ownership of your assets or property will transfer to heirs smoothly and privately. You may want it to convey some tax advantages. You may think it can protect your assets from creditors.
Well, maybe. Maybe not.

I see this more and more often — a new retiree, or someone thinking about retiring shortly, asks me to review their retirement plan. They want to know: “Will I have enough?” After getting to know them and learning about their goals and what is important to them, I begin by reviewing their balance sheet and notice the $200,000 mortgage at 3.75 percent under the liabilities column.

The Senate has joined the House by introducing legislation addressing inequalities in benefits for reserve-component members who deploy under the mobilization authority known as 12304b. Under 12304b, National Guard and Reserve members are ineligible for the health care, leave and retirement benefits they would earn under other mobilization authorities. Active-component members who might be serving alongside them receive their full benefits.

TSA pre-check does alleviate some of the biggest headaches in travel. The line! Taking off your shoes! Cramming your toiletries into a teeny baggie! Fishing out your laptop and emptying your pockets and chugging every last sip of that bottle of water before you send your stuff through the little luggage carwash. I’m exhausted just thinking about it.
