Major AAFES Website Price Glitch, Orders Canceled

If you were one of the apparently hundreds thousands of AAFES shoppers who thought they scored astoundingly cheap furniture over the weekend, you’re about to be disappointed.

A glitch on the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) website over the New Years weekend showed certain items, many of them Ashley brand, as having deep discounts. For example, an Ashley couch set in the color “sage” showed as marked down from $939 to $199.97. An Ashley bed frame set price $329 was marked down to $49.97, according to the site.

TSA may soon stop accepting drivers’ licenses from nine states

Thanks to Gordon Lau for sharing this information

hawaii-drivers-license-sample-500x313

The citizens of several US states may soon find that they can’t use their drivers’ licenses to get into federal facilities or even board planes.

Enforcement of a 2005 federal law that sets identification standards, known as “Real ID,” has been long-delayed. But now Department of Homeland Security officials say enforcement is imminent. The “Real ID” law requires states to implement certain security features before they issue IDs and verify the legal residency of anyone to whom they issue an ID card. The statute is in part a response to the suggestion of the 9/11 Commission, which noted that four of the 19 hijackers used state-issued ID cards to board planes.

The Affordable Care Act, your taxes and you

IRS logoUnder the Affordable Care Act, all Americans including all military members (active duty, retired, Selected Reserve, or Retired Reserve) and their eligible family members must have health care coverage that meets a minimum standard called minimum essential coverage or pay a fee. Your TRICARE coverage meets the minimum essential coverage requirement under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

“The term “active duty” means full-time duty in the active service of a uniformed service for more than 30 consecutive days”. Beginning in January 2016, DFAS will be providing IRS Form 1095-C to all U.S. military members, and IRS Form 1095-B to all Retirees, Annuitants, former spouses and all other individuals having TRICARE coverage during all or any portion of tax year 2015. An IRS Form 1095 documents you (and your family members, if applicable) have the minimum essential coverage. More information will be forthcoming about the delivery method of these forms.

These forms will document the information that DFAS will provide to the IRS on yourself and your authorized family members. DFAS will provide you with IRS Form 1095 series forms no later than Jan. 31, 2016.

You can find more information about the impact of the Affordable Care Act on your federal income tax at: http://www.irs.gov/Affordable-Care-Act, or http://www.dfas.mil/taxes/aca.html.

You can act now to make sure your forms remain secure once they are available using myPay. Just look for the link to “Turn On/Off Hard Coy of IRS Form 1095” in your account and select Electronic Delivery Only.  Your information will remain safe until you need it.
