Colonel Walter F. Judd, a Hawaii Air National Guard member, organized the current Royal Guard.
The unit made its first public appearance on November 16, 1963 at Iolani Palace to commemorate King David Kalakaua’s birthday. The unit has posted the guard every year since. You can visit Iolani Palace on Monday, November 16, 2015, to see this year’s ceremony.

The Royal Guard appears at public events honoring veterans and the U.S. military in Hawaii year round.
The Air Guard ceremonial unit currently has 22 members, all who have some Hawaiian ancestry. Uniforms and accouterments worn by the unit are exact replicas of King Kalakaua’s Royal Guard. All commands are given in Hawaiian.

Fred “TriFox” Fogel submitted this piece about the Vietnam Memorial to Retiree News a few years ago. It is fitting that the article is posted on Veteran’s Day.
Joseph Ambrose, an 86-year-old World War I veteran, attends the dedication day parade for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in 1982. He is holding the flag that covered the casket of his son, who was killed in the Korean War

On November 10, 1775, the Second Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia passed a resolution stating that “two Battalions of Marines be raised” for service as landing forces with the fleet. This resolution established the Continental Marines and marked the birth date of the United States Marine Corps.

The US Air Force expects to cease carrying out test support using its 22-strong fleet of BAE Systems QF-4 Phantom aerial targets in January 2017, followed by a complete out of service date in the middle of the same year.

A lot of residents and tourists have done the Stairway to Heaven hike over the years. The view at the top is awesome and is worth the challenges on the way up.
The stairs closed for renovation and unfortunately before it reopened, it became a point of contention between hikers and area residents. In addition, sections of the stairs washed away during heavy rains making it very dangerous.
But the stairway and a few of the buildings remaining have a military connection. The Navy built the stairs leading to a radio facility during World War II. Later, the Coast Guard converted it into an OMEGA station.

Income taxes have been in the national spotlight this fall with presidential candidates on both sides of the aisle offering proposals that would fundamentally alter the current income tax code. Because tax policy has been a key issue for the campaigns, it is crucial that those listening to the candidates’ tax proposals have a fundamental understanding of what income actually looks like in America and how it is taxed.
Unfortunately, income taxes are often misunderstood or misrepresented. Although Americans spend hours filing their income tax returns each year, this process offers only a small glimpse of the entire federal income tax system. Combine that with the proliferation of misinformation about income and income taxes, and it can be very difficult for taxpayers and policymakers alike to stay well informed.
Income Taxes Illustrated: A Visual Guide to Income in America and How It Is Taxed offers the context needed to understand the history of income in the United States, how it has been taxed, and what the economic effects of those taxes have been.
To thank members of the military past and present for their service, food and drink are on the house all over the country on Veterans Day 2015, which takes place on Wednesday, November 11. Before getting to the bars and restaurants offering freebies, let us also point out that they’re not the only deals available to military service personnel.

Is sugar toxic? It is when you consider the levels the average American swallows each year—a whopping 130 pounds of added sugars ingested annually. That’s about 22 teaspoons a day, way over the max set by the American Heart Association in 2009. New science shows that this overload of sugar—often stemming from hard-to-detect hidden added sugars—is affecting your body in all sorts of strange ways.
Check out these 11 weird things that sugar is doing to your body from Get Sugar Smart, a breakthrough plan brimming with reasons to rein in your sugar habit.
Do you love your iPhone? I love mine, and I just can’t wait to get a new one as soon as they are released. But isn’t the bill a BUMMER?
I love Apple, but the fine print in those disclaimers might just send your bill skyrocketing, and here’s why:
When you installed iOS 9 update on your phone (as most of us were quasi-forced to), they “forgot” to mention that it would automatically install and enable a feature that could cost you a ton of money.
