August 8, 2014

CMSgt Raquel Ramos submits reports and photographs of the activities of Hawai‘i National Guard members assigned to the National Guard Bureau and other locations in the Washington DC area. This group, known as Team 808, has activities where the Hawai‘i Guard members can meet in a social setting.

The Chamber of Commerce of Hawai’i hosted an event with the Honorable Senator Mazie Hirono, and the rest of the Hawai’i Congressional Delegation: Senator Brian Schatz, Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, for the inaugural Taste of Hawai’i event on July 23, 2014.  The event showcased the 50th state’s melting pot cuisine, industries and ideas. We had a blast enjoying the taste, sights, sounds of home.  We were greeted with orchid leis and visited every vendor from the state’s tourism, agriculture, food and beverage, manufacturing, and military and defense industries…over 1,000 peeps attended. You could feel and smell the ALOHA in the atmosphere.

We were able to (myself, SFC Linda Hesch, Major James Wornall and CPT Adrian Schnobrich) have a photo op with Senator Hirono, but also ran into Brig Gen Stan Osserman during the event.
