Blessing of the 154 SFS Indoor Firing Range
Major Dane Minami, Commander of the 154th Security Forces Squadron (154 SFS), will host the Blessing Ceremony of the 154 SFS Indoor Firing Range. The blessing will start at 1000 on Saturday, August 8, 2015. The einvitation includes a map to the blessing location.
Hawai‘i Air National Guard units on Oahu historically completed weapons qualification at the then Wheeler AFB range.
On November 1,1991, the Army held a simple ceremony to signify their takeover of the base. Part of the ceremony was the change of the sign at the main gate to Wheeler Army Airfield.
The installation, however, remained on the real property records of the 15th Air Base Wing until March 15, 1993. An Action Memorandum signed by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Environment, Safety and Occupational Health) and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Installations and Housing) authorized the exchange of Wheeler AFB for Fort Kamehameha Military Reservation.
The drive to get one of these indoor firing ranges began when the range closed shortly after the real property exchange. HIANG units began using the Schofield Barracks range. Scheduling was a challenge as the HIANG tried to fit into the Army schedule.
The opening of this indoor range at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam will relieve some of these scheduling challenges.
