March 9, 2020

The Hawai‘i Air National Guard celebrated its 40th Anniversary on November 22, 1986. The dinner event was held at the Sheraton Waikīkī.

The evening’s events included the annual HIANG Awards presentation, which evolved into the Launa‘ole Awards in later years.

As the HIANG Commander, Brig. Gen. Edward Richardson says in his program aloha:

From its rudimentary beginnings in 1946 to the present, the history of the Hawai‘i Air National Guard has epitomized our anniversary theme, a Tradition of Excellence. It is a history replete with challenges, commitments and sacrifices; it is a history of noteworthy achievements. No doubt the success of the Hawai‘i Air National Guard is rooted in its membership., it is a membership of people who care for each other and strive for excellence as a team. Fellowship is nurtured and lasting bonds of friendship is formed.
