The Hawaii National Guard had the honor to assist the production team with a small portion of the virtual wreath laying ceremony commemorating the 79th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Our portion of the vignette was shot at sunrise at the beach near Bellows Field. Mahalo Staff Sgt. Fajotina, from the Hawaii Army National Guard for being our wreath bearer.
Bellows Field has a special place in Hawai‘i Army National Guard history. It is where the first Japanese two prisoners of war were captured. Read the whole story.

There was a time when you didn’t worry much about your email account, or the website you bought years ago, or your usernames and passwords for various financial and other accounts.
But now you do. Now you must make sure that your loved ones have access to your digital assets should you die.
“Digital assets are becoming more and more prominent parts of people’s estates – they just can’t be ignored anymore,” says Karen Van Voorhis, a certified financial planner with Daniel J. Galli & Associates.
So how do make sure your digital assets don’t die with you?

Each year on December 7, Pearl Harbor Survivors, veterans, and visitors from all over the world come together to honor and remember the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. A further 1,178 people were injured in the attack, which permanently sank two U.S. Navy battleships (the USS Arizona and the USS Utah) and destroyed 188 aircraft.
On August 23, 1994, the United States Congress designated December 7 as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. Every year, remembrance events are held at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, culminating in a commemoration ceremony on December 7. To see photos of these events, please go to our Flickr page. Ribs at Chinese roast meat counters in Honolulu are tucked away in a corner to make room for hanging burnished ducks and crackly-skinned roast pork. It’s time for these quiet stunners to take centerstage: They are meaty and hefty, roasted just so they have a little give, but not so they wilt off the bone. Glazed and sticky with honey, they are a messy, glorious delight.
We tried all the Chinese-style ribs we could find in town. Here are our four favorites:

From a news release from Genworth Financial, Inc., December 02, 2020
The cost of long term care services in Hawaii increased year-over-year in line, surpassing national trends as COVID-19 intensified providers’ existing challenges to meet the increasing demand for long term care, according to Genworth’s 17th annual Cost of Care Survey.
National 2020 data shows a continuation of the upward trajectory in long term care costs, though this year proved to be like no other as patients and providers struggled to cope with the effects of COVID-19. This year’s Cost of Care Survey shows national annual median costs increased across the board — assisted living facilities (6.1%), home care (4.3-4.4%) and skilled nursing facilities (3.2-3.5%).

ALOHA is more than a Hawaiian greeting and acronym. The “H” in ALOHA is Ha‘aha‘a, meaning humility, to be expressed with modesty. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who despised someone’s humility. False humility though is another story. As for humility, when expressed with modesty, it can be exercised by all who choose to do so.
I had the opportunity to meet Robert A. McDonald, former Chief Executive Officer of Procter & Gamble, producer of brands such as Pampers, Gillette, Olay, Tide, etc., a multibillion-dollar company. Robert, who liked to go by Bob, was visiting my alma mater on a recruiting visit and I happened to be invited to the business school. I felt like a fish out of water because I was sitting in a business school classroom full of Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree students that were also formerly military academy graduates or military officers. Bob, who graduated thirteenth in his West Point class, separated from the Army as a major and surged up the ranks of P&G.
Bob, sitting front and center, I imagined he was going to ask the MBA students why they were so awesome and pitch why they should come work for P&G. No. Bob blindsided me with these words: “How may I help you?” Bob exercised servant leadership with that question and shared a bit more on how that posture of leadership was practiced through his faith and understanding of God.
Servant leadership or the practice of ha‘aha‘a (humility) will make you more valuable to your organization. A posture of humility will posture your mind to learn, to follow, and to carefully lead—so let’s try to live the spirit of aloha.

The Social Security and Supplemental Security Income disability programs are the largest of several Federal programs that provide assistance to people with disabilities. While these two programs are different in many ways, both are administered by the Social Security Administration and only individuals who have a disability and meet medical criteria may qualify for benefits under either program.
Do you need to apply for Social Security disability benefits? Here’s a checklist of all the information you’ll need:

This story was updated December 2 with the CDC making the change official.
November 25, 2020 — The CDC has updated its recommendations for coronavirus self-quarantining to 7 to 10 days instead of 14 days.
The Wall Street Journal first reported last week that the change was likely.
If individuals do not develop symptoms, they need only quarantine for 10 days; if they test negative, that period can be reduced to just 7 days.
