You can lock down your meetings like never before—even if you have to give up a few features to do so.
Zoom has gone from startup to verb in record time, by now the de facto video call service for work-from-home meetings and cross-country happy hours alike. But while there was already plenty you could do to keep your Zoom sessions private and secure, the startup has until now lacked the most important ingredient in a truly safe online interaction: end-to-end encryption.
Here’s how to use it, now that you can, and why in many cases you may not actually want to.

No to nag, but if you’re considering seeing family for the holidays, I need you to take a look at this map.
It’s a color-coded guide to Covid-19 risk level, sorted by geography (at the US county level) and crowd size. First, you choose the location where the gathering would happen. Then, at left, you can choose an event size with the slider, from 10 to 5,000 people, and watch the risk of at least one Covid-positive person being there skyrocket the bigger the gathering gets. In some locations where the virus is spreading out of control, like in parts of the Dakotas, that chance is darn near 100 percent, even if the gathering is just 10 people. Get any bigger than 10 people, and the map spits out odds calling it a virtual certainty in many places that you’ll be sharing space with a sick person.
Hawaii is better off than most locations in the United States. But we must continue to be vigilant and limit our Thanksgiving gatherings.
The coronavirus pandemic from a military perspective, as of November 13, 2020.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a disaster, and we all need to work to control it. Start by washing your hands often, wearing a mask and maintaining 6 foot separations.

Risk management is planning for the “what if” scenarios that no one wants to occur. What if I become disabled? What if I am subject to a lawsuit? What if I pass away prematurely? These unfortunate scenarios could have a significant negative impact on your family’s financial security.
The hope is that these scenarios never occur, but there are no guarantees they won’t — so planning should be done to protect your financial security if they do. The type and extent of risk management planning, like other areas of wealth planning, depends on your current situation.

The pandemic has fundamentally changed the restaurant industry. This year, owners were forced to lay off employees, applying for government loans to stay afloat. Once-crowded dining rooms pivoted to takeout and delivery, often reinventing their entire concepts and menus. Meanwhile, as awareness grew about social inequities and racial biases, restaurants stepped up as voices of leadership in their communities.

In October, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force needed to perform work on one of its storage hangars, which necessitated moving the world’s only remaining XB-70 Valkyrie supersonic bomber from its permanent roost.
The bomber, towed into the sunlight on a bright Ohio day, looks like it could take to the skies today—more than 50 years after it was canceled by the Pentagon.

According to a recent survey by GrandkidsMatter, 42% of grandparents say their relationship with their grandchildren has stayed the same during the pandemic. Meanwhile, 31% said it became stronger, and 27% reported that it became weaker.
Is there a playbook for grandparenting during a pandemic? We seem to be writing a new one. I know this personally, having three kids with six grandchildren, all long distances away.
