Is Lockheed Building the Air Force’s Secret Fighter?

From the Defense One website

Is Lockheed Martin building a secret new fighter jet that U.S. Air Force officials revealed last month?

Company executives dropped some not-so-subtle hints about the company’s growing backlog of classified military work, including one project that requires erecting a new building at its secretive Skunk Works facility in Palmdale, California. They also pointed to revenue growth within the company’s Aeronautics division, which includes the Advanced Development Programs shop that created the fabled U-2 and SR-71 spy planes and F-117 stealth attack jet.

From the Military.com website

The Department of Veterans Affairs is eliminating its in-house compensation and pension exam program and will outsource all of the exams, which are crucial to determining whether veterans are eligible for VA benefits.

In a letter to VA Secretary Robert Wilkie on Tuesday, Rep. Elaine Luria, D-Va., said the plan was developed with no notice to Congress. She’s concerned the move could slow work to reduce a backlog of compensation and pension exams, commonly referred to as C&P exams, and she’s worried about the VA’s ability to oversee the contractors. Luria also criticized the department for cutting federal jobs during a pandemic.

President Trump on Saturday signed two major pieces of legislation to address the problem of suicide, including bills designating “988” as the three-digit phone number for the national suicide hotline and providing government grants to localities and nonprofits that serve veterans with mental health issues.

The president signed the Cmdr. John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act, which will require the Department of Veterans Affairs to hire additional suicide prevention coordinators and give it leeway to award grants to organizations that focus on veterans’ mental health issues.

297 ATCS Radar Airfield Weather Systems

Hawaii Air National Guard photograph

Off the Hawaii Air National Guard Facebook page

Crew chiefs and specialists take care of aircraft, pilots fly them and air traffic controllers provide critical, real-time guidance as they navigate the flight line and the skies above.

However, there’s always another team of aviation professionals at work during each and every sortie.

Radar Airfield Weather Systems Airmen from the 297th Air Traffic Control Squadron are experts at setting up and operating an array of airfield systems which makes flight ops possible.

These Airmen set up the essential networks which enable safe takeoffs and landings and can mobilize their instruments into deployed environments.

This career path entails plenty of critical thinking and field work with weather instruments, heavy-duty vehicles, navigational aids and more.

Not only are they crucial for the HIANG’s mission sets, but RAWS Airmen poses many of the competencies and skillsets which can be applied in the Federal Aviation Administration and civilian sector.
