Hackers stole personnel data and Social Security numbers for every federal employee (including every federal retiree) a government worker union said Thursday, asserting that the cyber theft of U.S. employee information was more damaging than the Obama administration has acknowledged.
Senator Harry Reid, the Democratic leader, said on the Senate floor that the December hack into Office of Personnel Management data was carried out by “the Chinese” without specifying whether he meant the Chinese government or individuals. Reid is one of eight lawmakers briefed on the most secret intelligence information. U.S. officials have declined to publicly blame China, which has denied involvement.

Kamehameha Day on June 11 is a public holiday of the state of Hawaii in the United States. It honors Kamehameha the Great, the monarch who first established the unified Kingdom of Hawaiʻi — comprising the Hawaiian Islands of Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, Maui, and Hawaiʻi. While he was king, Hawaii was a center of the fur and sandalwood trade. Pineapples were brought to Hawaii from Spain in 1813 and coffee was first planted in 1818, a year before he died. In 1883 a statue of King Kamehameha I was dedicated in Honolulu by King David Kalākaua (this was a duplicate, because the original statue was temporarily lost at sea). There is another duplicate of this statue in Emancipation Hall at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, D.C.

A F-22 Raptor, from the 199th Fighter Squadron, increases altitude shortly after taking off from Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, June 6, 2015. Pilots of the F-22 from the Hawaii Air National Guard’s 199th Fighter Squadron and the 19th Fighter Squadron teamed up with maintenance Airmen from the 154th Wing and 15th Maintenance Group to launch and recover 62 Raptors in a day. Congress appears intent on looking into the possibility of tightening the rules under which active-duty members can share Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits with family members.
Tucked into the Senate version of the annual defense authorization bill is a provision that recommends defense officials review current policy in that area to ensure it “encourages the retention of individuals in the armed forces.”

With the per-plane purchase cost of the F-35 apparently settling around $165 million, the Pentagon is now trying to reduce the far larger cost of flying and upgrading the jets over decades. The chief instrument will be performance-based contracts, which DoD thinks might shave 10 to 15 percent from a total cost estimated at up to $1 trillion, Defense One‘s Marcus Weisgerber reports.

There is no evidence that knuckle-cracking will lead to arthritis. However, cracking your knuckles causes excessive repetitive activity in the tendons, which is a risk for inflammation.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced a reboot of its popular Child ID App, which provides parents with an easy way to electronically store their children’s pictures and vital information to have on hand in case their kids go missing.
The application, which works on most Apple and Android smartphones and tablets, allows users to store up-to-date images and physical descriptions – like height, weight, birthmarks, etc. – that could help responders in the event of an emergency. The information is stored only on devices – not with mobile providers or the FBI.
The latest version of the Child ID App contains updated features, including high-resolution image capability, a default recipient field (where you can enter your local police department’s e-mail address, for example), and optional automatic reminders to update children’s profiles. More
Diabetes and gout often go together — and this form of arthritis can wake you up in the middle of the night with severe pain.
See how trust played an enormous role during a critical milestone in the Air Force’s history—and every day before or since. In the Air Force, each generation of men and women inspires and encourages the next to aim even higher and to carry our values further.
Unwanted weight gain can be a real problem as we age, but there are ways to avoid adding extra pounds.
The senior leadership of the Air Force remains largely white and male despite an emphasis on diversity in the service and throughout the military, according to data and interviews with service leaders.
The Air Force has 280 generals, but just 18 of them belong to minority groups. That includes two Hispanic officers, or less than 1% of the total. The 13 African-American generals make up 4% of the Air Force’s general officer corps.
