A Look at the VA Loan Appraisal Process

VA logo

When VA lenders approve a VA loan application there are really two distinct approvals issued—one for the veteran and one for the property. Both must be separately approved during the loan process. A borrower with $100,000 in the bank, an 850 credit score and single digit debt ratios won’t get a VA loan unless the subject property is approved as well.

How do VA appraisals work and what do they look for?

Before we answer those questions, let’s first briefly explain that an appraisal and a property inspection are two separate items.

More on 1st Lt Wade McVey

A recent Retiree News post was a short story on the first 199th Fighter Squadron patch designed by 1st Lt Wade McVey – http://wp.me/p3639O-1P1

Shortly after the posting, Retiree News received an email from his son, Kurt McVey expanding his father’s background.

My Dad passed 3 years to the month this was blogged. He flew P47 Thunderbolts in the Europe occupation and F86 jets in the Hawai‘i Air National Guard.

Born in Venice California, neighbor to a horrible brat named Mickey Rooney, (his mom’s words), Dad earned a Master of Fine Arts from Ohio State. Through his work in ceramics he met and married my Mom, (Harue Oyama-(Haah-roo-ay): University of Hawaii Art professor for 43 years, emeritus and still active at 86).

Dad changed professions with the start of his family, (me and my sister). He also quit flying! Eventually as manager and trustee of the $2B Campbell Estate:

http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2007/Jan/20/bz/FP701200333.html

He ushered in an era of innovation, integrity in its mission and responsibility to society, that has allowed the Estate entity to continue stewardship of its assets beyond the prescribed tenure of the Trust. Now a corporation, its burgeoning wealth was created on Dad’s watch. I hope they remember that it was the result of not just creativity, but conscience as well. He was also a Rotarian major donor many times over.

The world is a much better place for his being here along with the many people he “flew with”.

Thanks for the flyby Dad, aloha and happy landings
