This was taken around 1968 – 69. Back then Hickam AFB was a beehive of activity with aircraft of all types and sizes going to or coming from Southeast Asia. So many birds in on this day that they were being parked on taxiways! Much of this flight line in the background doesn’t exist anymore; housing areas and other facilities have replaced it.

If your weight loss efforts have stalled on the Mediterranean diet, you may have an easier time shedding those excess pounds by going vegan and cutting out all animal products instead of continuing to eat lean poultry and fish.
In a study published in February 2021 in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, people who followed a low-fat vegan diet lost an average of 6.0 kilograms (13.2 pounds) over 16 weeks. But when these same people followed a Mediterranean diet for the same amount of time, they typically didn’t lose weight.
“Because the Mediterranean diet is often touted for weight loss, it was surprising to see that participants experienced very small changes — if any at all — when it came to their weight on this diet,” says the study’s senior author, Hana Kahleova, MD, PhD, the director of clinical research at the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, DC.

Did you know that through a dirty trick called SIM swapping, a scammer could take over your phone? Worse yet, with some additional information about you, do major damage to your finances, your identity, and your life?
Here’s more bad news. Your phone stays in your possession during the “heist.” That means you might not realize it right away, and by the time you do and start to wonder what’s going on, it might be too late to stop them.
This isn’t hype or over exaggeration—fact is, it’s a serious type of crime that’s on the rise in U.S.—the FBI and Justice Department are warning citizens to be aware of SIM swapping and start paying attention to their phone numbers.

Many older adults in the United States who take daily pills to promote cardiovascular health and prevent events like heart attacks and strokes may be taking the wrong medicine, according to a study published in February 2021 in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
For the study, researchers examined data collected between 2011 and 2018 from 11,392 adults age 50 and older about their history of cardiovascular events and any use of aspirin, a common over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), or statins, prescription drugs that lower cholesterol.

Tech. Sgt. Jose Molestina, Staff Sgt. Daniel Buss, Senior Airman Nainoa Kahauolopua, Chief Master Sgt. Edward Tang, and Tech. Sgt. Garrick Ferreira, all Hawaii Air National Guard members who augmented the 113th Logistics Readiness Squadron’s Ground Transportation Flight, gather February 19, 2021, while supporting Operation Capitol Response in Washington D.C. The Airmen initially relocated to support this year’s presidential inauguration and provided 24/7 transportation capabilities for thousands of follow-on service members to ensure a peaceful transfer of power. The team has continued to support the 113th Wing at Joint Base Andrews to assist with regular movements of forces and supplies.

Shout out to our incredible Ground Transportation Team from the 154th Logistics Readiness Squadron (154 LRS), who are continuing more than two months of support in the District of Columbia!
Over the past two months, this small team has been instrumental in assisting thousands of National Guard Airmen and Soldiers who rely on logistics to get the job done.
These vehicle operators and mechanics have been working around-the-clock, out of Joint Base Andrews, all while facing obstacles such as iced-in vehicles, constant road closures, heightened force protection measures a nonstop influx of passengers and supplies, and successfully staying safe during a global pandemic.
While the natural elements in D.C. are nothing like Hawaii, it is going to take a lot more than that to slow this team of dedicated Airmen down!

It’s tax time again, not that you needed reminding. It shows up at the same time every year, ready, willing, and able to escort you down a financial memory lane.
When it comes to filing income taxes, this year, more than any other, is likely to throw some curveballs. There were stimulus payments, and employment payments; you may have made more or less income than you did in the previous year. Sad to say, but bankruptcy, the death of a loved one, or the loss of job may factor into your financial situation more this year than at any other time in your personal history. Your tax software needs to be up to the task of getting every tax break possible.

The U.S. Air Force isn’t ruling out bringing a new fighter jet into its inventory as it looks to replace older, fourth-generation F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft, according to the service’s top general.
As the service tries to determine the right mix of aircraft for its future inventory, it’s considering the idea of a new fighter that falls somewhere between fourth- and fifth-generation airframes — one that could easily be upgraded throughout its life, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Charles “CQ” Brown said last week.
