Chuck Yeager is unquestionably the most famous test pilot of all time. He won a permanent place in the history of aviation as the first pilot ever to fly faster than the speed of sound, but that is only one of the remarkable feats this pilot performed in service to his country.
Charles Elwood Yeager was born in 1923 in Myra, West Virginia and grew up in the nearby village of Hamlin. Immediately upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps to serve in World War II.

Nathan Kaupookua Hale, Sr. of Wahiawa, Hawaii, passed away on July 22, 2019 in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. He was born to John H. Hale, Sr. and Rose L. Kalei on Jan. 24, 1932 in Waialua, Hawaii. He was employed by City and County of Honolulu for over 40 years, and a retired veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard.
He is survived by his children, Natalie Hale (William), Nathan Hale, Jr. (Carlene), Naida Iaea (John), numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, 2 great- great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation: 9:30a.m.; Services: 10:30a.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel. Private burial at Liliokalani Church on Friday, September 20, 2019.

For over 40 years, La Pietra was a social center for Honolulu’s wealthy and famous, with visitors to the estate including Franklin D. Roosevelt and Walt Disney.
Upon Walter Dillingham’s death in 1963, Punahou School gained ownership of La Pietra and used it for faculty housing; the property was eventually sold to the newly formed Hawaii School for Girls in 1969.
With its start at Central Union Church, Hawaii School for Girls then renamed and relocated to La Pietra – Hawaii School for Girls, an independent, college preparatory school for girls, which consisted of nine founding teachers, 210 girls and Head of School, Joseph Pynchon.

In a new study, British researchers found that being socially active in your 50s and 60s may reduce the risk of developing dementia.
The findings showed that people in their 60s who interacted with friends nearly every day had a 12% lower risk of developing dementia than people who saw a couple of friends every few months.
