On-base military pharmacies worldwide may soon change or reduce their offerings of free over-the-counter (OTC) medications as Tricare administrators standardize the list of what’s available.
Currently, military retirees and other beneficiaries can receive certain medications for free and without a prescription through a long-standing OTC medication program. How the program is administered and how many medications each user can get per month varies by location. Typically, users must fill out a request form, and medications are often capped at four or five per beneficiary.

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service is warning customers of a scam aimed at service members buying used vehicles.
Scammers using the name “Exchange Inc.” have been trying to fool service members into thinking they are working with AAFES to broker the sale of used cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats and boat engines.

“For years, scammers have used the Exchange’s trademarked logo and name without permission to purportedly sell vehicles in the United States,” said Steve Boyd, the Exchange’s loss prevention vice president. “Some military members have sent money thinking they’re dealing with the Exchange, only to receive nothing in return.”
AAFES said a recent Better Business Bureau study revealed service members are more susceptible to fraud than average consumers. They said military exchanges do not have the authority to sell vehicles or represent private sellers in the continental United States and The Exchange does not advertise in classifieds or resale websites.
Military shoppers can verify any suspicious requests through the Exchange Customer Service line at 800-527-2345. Those who believe they have been taken advantage of through the scam can file a complaint through the Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.

It takes the combined effort of highly-skilled teams to maintain air superiority, and this is why more than 700 Airmen have gathered here to participate in exercise Sentry Aloha 19-2 from August 21 to September 4.
This combat aircraft exercise is held on a routine basis so that cost-effective and realistic training can be achieved by members of the Air National Guard, DoD and also international partners. This iteration includes Airmen from 15 states and our wingmen from the Royal Australian Air Force. We’re looking forward to seeing all of them and their aircraft in action over the next few weeks!

Many people think climbing up the mountain is the greatest challenge to a climb. However, getting down the mountain is something many people underestimate. A successful climb doesn’t end at the peak; it ends when you get back home safe and sound.

Although vascular dementia doesn’t carry the same name recognition as Alzheimer’s disease, maybe it should, because both are so devastating. Possibly the most important difference between these two brain conditions is that vascular dementia is more preventable.
Here’s why you should put vascular dementia on your radar and take action now:

The 199th Fighter Squadron flew Republic P-47 Thunderbolts from the Hawaii Air National Guard’s inception in 1946 through the early 1950s. In 1954, the squadron entered the jet age when they began flying the North American F-86E Sabre and Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star (also known as the T-Bird).
The 199 FS flew the F-86Es until 1958 when there was a transition to the F-86L Sabre Interceptor. The F-86Ls and the T-33s were replaced by the F-102 Delta Dagger in 1961.

CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol, one of the many cannabinoids, or chemical compounds, found in marijuana and hemp. You’re probably already familiar with THC, which is another compound found in the cannabis plant. But unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive. In other words, it’s not what gets you stoned. It’s also different from medical marijuana, which has been shown to reduce pain. (Today Show website)
Maybe you’re a customer who’s curious about CBD-infused products such as tinctures, capsules, sprays, lotion, waters, sodas or gummy bears. You’ve heard claims of pain-relieving, anxiety-reducing, anti-inflammatory, sleep-enhancing and other purported healing properties, and you wonder if products containing cannabidiol, or CBD, can help you.
Research on the safest, most effective use of CBD is still emerging. Even so, with major retail chains climbing on board, health and wellness products with CBD are getting easier to find. And if you’re interested in trying them, you’re not alone. In a survey conducted by CreakyJoints, part of the Global Living Foundation, more than half of arthritis patients surveyed had tried medical marijuana and CBD products in addition to their prescribed medications to cope with symptoms like chronic pain.

Jimmy Kimmel has learned an expensive lesson: don’t mess with the government’s emergency alert system.

Kimmel’s network, ABC, was one of four media organizations fined by the Federal Communications Commission this week for improper use of the emergency signal that is sent over television, radio and mobile phones to warn people of danger like floods and fires. The $395,000 fine to ABC was by far the stiffest.

It’s unfortunate that a lot of times we only see our former co-workers and friends from the Guard at funerals.

In a medical exam room at Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dr. Robert C. Green goes over a menu of DNA tests with a new patient.
“So based on your physical examination, your medical history and your family history, you don’t really need genetic testing,” he advises her. “But if you want to look at some of the options for predictive genetic testing and possible preventive care, we’ve got a couple of options for you.”
There are the big-ticket “whole-genome” tests that look at more than 3,000 genes and can cost nearly $3,000 for a full interpretation. “And we’ve got some more limited and less expensive panel options,” Green offers. “For example, if you were really concerned about cancer, there’s a $250, 61-gene cancer panel which is very specific for cancer.”

Pictured above are three members of the Hawaii Air National Guard’s Royal Guard. Left to right are Moses Timbal, Les Chambers, and Paul Kealoha. According to Randall Lum, another Royal Guard member and retiree, it was taken in 1965.
Colonel Walter “Papa” Judd, a Hawaii Air National Guard member, organized the current Royal Guard in 1962. The unit made its first public appearance on November 16, 1963 at Iolani Palace to commemorate King David Kalakaua’s birthday. The unit has posted the guard at the palace every year since.
The unit is composed of HIANG members who are either full Hawaiian or part-Hawaiian ancestry. All commands during ceremonies are in the Hawaiian language.
The Royal Guard recreates the troops who guarded Hawaii’s monarchy in the latter half of the 19th century. It is ceremonial unit only and serves the Governor, for official State functions and other public functions. The Royal Guard appears at public events honoring veterans and the U.S. military in Hawaii year round.
