It’s no secret that some of the world’s most amazing destinations are feeling the tourism squeeze. But that’s no reason to stay put: as communities cope with travellers’ all-too-loving embrace, being a good tourist just means getting strategic about where to go and when.
Every traveller is on a journey, though it’s becoming clearer that some paths are so well trodden that they’re at risk of wearing out. Even when we try to venture off the tourist track it can be hard not to bump into others doing the same thing. But that doesn’t mean it’s time to put away your packing cubes and ignore your itchy feet; it’s just a new opportunity to consider your impact on the places you cherish.

For more than a decade, the latest Apple products have been the annual must-have holiday gift for the tech-savvy. That raises the question: Is the newest Apple Watch on your list — either to give or receive — this year?
At first glance, the watch appears to be an ideal present for Apple’s most familiar market: the hip early adopters. Its promotional website is full of svelte young people stretching into yoga poses, kickboxing and playing basketball.
But when Apple unveiled its latest model in September — the Series 4, which starts at $399 — it was clear it was expanding its target audience. This Apple Watch includes new features designed to detect falls and heart problems. With descriptions like “part guardian, part guru” and “designed to improve your health … and powerful enough to protect it,” the tech giant signaled its move toward preventive health and a much wider demographic.
Can you recommend a good financial planner? is among the most common questions I’ve received over the years writing on personal finance. Problem is, finding a financial planner who is trustworthy, competent and comes at a reasonable cost is hard to find.
The stakes, if you’re nearing retirement, are steep.
“The cost of bad advice at that point of life is high,” says Pam Krueger, host of the public television investor education series Money Track and a registered investment adviser. “You can’t get the money back.”
Krueger has just come out something called Wealthramp, a nifty way to find a vetted financial planner through a unique algorithm. I’ll tell you about Wealthramp shortly, but first let me briefly mention the various types of financial advisers people typically consider as the near retirement.
But remember the last line of this article – “You still must do your own due diligence”
Ask the Travel + Leisure staff where we want to travel in 2019, and most of us will answer, honestly, where don’t we? When it comes to compiling our annual year-end list of the places we’re most excited about in the coming months, narrowing down the field is easier said than done. We pore over press releases, tourism statistics, and our overflowing spreadsheets of hotel openings, restaurant debuts, and new flight routes. We consider the anecdotal evidence: Where are our…

The Pentagon will propose creating a new US Space Force within the Air Force, under a new plan circulating in the Pentagon, according to a Defense News report and others familiar with the issue.
Under the plan, the new Space Force’s chief of staff would become the eighth member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and report to a new undersecretary responsible for the Space Force. The model is similar to that of the Navy and Marine Corps, which have their own service chiefs, but a share a single secretariat for oversight.

Aside from plain water, coffee and tea are the most enjoyed beverages around the world. Both have things in them that may help your health, and they’re an excuse to get together with a friend — that can be good for you, too.

There are only three sentences in Defense Secretary Jim Mattis’ resignation letter you need to read in order to understand why he’s stepping down.
While we know through plenty of White House/Pentagon palace intrigue stories that the relationship between Mattis and President Donald Trump has waned in recent months, Mattis’ letter makes it abundantly clear that he fundamentally disagrees with the president on the path forward.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has thrown down the gauntlet for the Air Force’s maintainers: Get four out of every five F-16, F-22 and F-35 fighter jets ready to fly at any given time — and get it done by the end of fiscal 2019.
It’s not going to be easy — and not only because those planes aren’t anywhere near the 80 percent goal.
Maintainers are already working long hours, with 12-hour-plus shifts and weekend work a common reality on the flightline. Some are bracing themselves for even longer workweeks as the pressure grows to hit that target — but wonder how much more they can give.

With a slow moving disease like Alzheimer’s, there’s still time for doubt. Perhaps the diagnosis is wrong and the memory holes and struggle for words are just normal aging. Deep in your psyche, there’s still a little spark of hope.
But there comes a moment when denial is no longer an option. Like Alzheimer’s itself, the moment creeps up slowly, taking care to not give away too much too soon.
