Pledge of Allegiance Day is observed annually on December 28.
Congress formally recognized the Pledge of Allegiance on December 28, 1945. Thought to have been written by Francis Bellamy, the Pledge of Allegiance was published anonymously by a magazine for young people, The Youth’s Companion, and was written in celebration of the 400th anniversary, in 1892, of the discovery of America.
The text of the pledge, as originally written and modified a bit by the National Flag Conference in 1923 and 1924, was inserted into this legislation, but without designating it as the official pledge. In its original form, it read: “I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
The small changes made resulted in this version:
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

When your back hurts, all you probably want to do is curl up in bed or on the couch and rest, waiting for the pain to end and the healing to proceed. But if you want to help your back muscles get stronger and minimize your back pain, one of the most effective treatments may also be one of the most surprising — exercise. Several studies have found that doing yoga or stretching can help relieve back soreness and even help you cut back on the amount of pain medication you’re taking for back problems.

Through a DNA kit his children bought him for his birthday, Walter’s half-brother was discovered. It was a guy who’s been right by his side for about 60-years.
Walter and Alan Robinson, or “Robby” as he’s known, have been best friends since they were 6th graders at Punahou School.

The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, or DASH, diet has been consistently ranked by US News & World Report as a top diet for heart health and weight loss, and it’s no surprise why. Unlike fad diets that call for extreme calorie or food-group restrictions without scientific evidence that supports their efficacy, the DASH diet involves making manageable dietary changes that are flexible and rooted in proven nutritional advice.
Here’s what to know about the eating plan before you try it.

As presented by Hoku Paoa Stevenson at the Summer Palace
1786 Captain George Dixon was a long way from home. He reflected briefly on the lot of a sailing man. The warm breeze which rocked the Queen Charlotte gently at anchor was pleasant enough, but he would have welcomed the December winds and the roaring fires that were part of Christmas in England. He would have liked to look out on glistening holly and snow-covered spruce instead of the palm trees on the shoreline and he would surely miss the rich sweet taste of the traditional plum pudding.
Still, he was a sailor; he could make home of any port. And there was a great tradition to be observed, even if he had to make do with what he had. So, on this December 25, 1786, he ordered a Christmas dinner and a bowl of punch prepared. A pig was brought from shore and roasted, the galley crew made pie and for this special occasion, the day’s ration of grog was mixed with coconut milk.
