154 SFS Completes Defender Games

Hawaii Air National Guard photograph

Off the Hawaii Air National Guard Facebook page

After a long two weeks of intensive training and obstacles, the 154th Security Forces Squadron’s ‘Defender Games’ have come to a close. Participants completed a series of mental and physical challenges to make sure they’re fit to defend and protect our assets under any given circumstance. They ruck-marched, they fired weapons, they practiced combative techniques, but most of all, they reaffirmed their commitment to stay ready for anything that comes their way (and it looks like they had a great time while doing it). Congrats to all who passed the many challenges of the Defender Games and walked away as a stronger individuals and a stronger team!

Major Army Guard Reorganization

U.S. Army photograph

From the Star and Stripes website

The Army National Guard will move most of its brigades under the command of its eight division headquarters as it reorganizes its fighting formations to give the force more combat power and some soldiers new career opportunities, officials said.

The Guard move will mark a substantial increase in the number of fully manned divisions that the Army can deploy, as only the service’s 10 active-duty divisions are now filled out with subordinate units, said Lt. Gen. Daniel Hokanson, the director of the Army National Guard. The increase to 18 complete Army divisions comes at a time when service officials believe a major conflict with a near-peer rival — namely Russia or China — would require the employment of full divisions, he said.

Check Six – 1980: Cope North

Hawaii Air National Guard photograph – click to enlarge

Retiree News did not know very much about this photograph, so we asked Wayne “Wildman” Wakeman for comments and some ID help.

This I believe was at Misawa 1980 for Cope North. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) flew F-104’s, F-4’s and there was a third type of aircraft.

This was back in the good old days. As you can see, the squadron patch was still being wore on our chest where the MAJCOM patch is now…

Off Track: 4 Popular Honolulu Eateries Are Making it Big in Japan

From the HONOLULU Magazine article

From the Honolulu Magazine website

“It’s tasty, but it’s too clean; everything needs to be more dirty,” says Andrew Le, chef/owner of The Pig & The Lady. More fermented, more funk. He’s in Japan, tasting the menu of The Pig & The Lady Tokyo, which opened at the end of November. Following Le’s recipes, the Japanese crew at the upcoming restaurant has prepared the same dishes that Le serves in Chinatown, Honolulu. Tasting them across the Pacific is like being in an alternate universe of a Haruki Murakami novel, where everything seems the same on the surface, but the details are a bit off.

Who’s Ready for a $5,826 Social Security Benefit Cut?

From the Motley Fool website

For most Americans, relying on Social Security income during retirement is the expectation. Surveys conducted by national pollster Gallup earlier this year found that 88% of future retirees expect to lean on Social Security income, to some degree, to make ends meet. For nonretirees, this represents an all-time high, dating back through two decades of surveys.

It’s an equally important source of income for current retirees, with Social Security Administration data showing that better than 3 in 5 seniors leans on their monthly stipend to account for at least half of their income.

In other words, it’s an indispensable program that’s singlehandedly responsible for keeping more than 22 million people a year out of poverty.

And it’s also in trouble.
